2024 Committees' Events

The following networking opportunities are available to RSA meeting attendees – some specific to students and post-docs. These events/programs are sponsored by RSA and organized by our committees. To secure a ticket, where required, select (RSVP) your option(s) when registering for the RSA meeting; some events/programs have limited seating and some require seniors / non-trainees to pay $40 for the box lunch (discounted from the actual cost of $73 by the venue).

The Expectations of Inclusive & Equitable Mentorship - Roles of Mentors & Mentees
Saturday, June 22nd – 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

In this forum style session, organized by the Professional Development & Skill-Building Subcommittee of the RSA Diversity Committee, we will address the expectations of mentorship, and provide mechanisms to address and to mitigate issues and potential misalignments between mentors and mentees.

 

4th Annual Emerging Scholars Outreach Program
Saturday, June 22nd – 7:00 pm during the RSA Opening Reception

The Emerging Scholars Outreach Program is sponsored by RSA and organized by the Education Committee. This is a networking event for students, postdocs, and early career professionals.

 

18th Annual Mentorship Meet Up
Sunday, June 23rd  7:00am - 7:45 and during the first coffee break

The RSVP on the meeting registration form is for the mentees and
mentors who will attend the Meet Up.
 
An informal meet up for those serving as a mentor and/or mentee in the Mentorship Program organized by the RSA Education Committee. For undergraduates through early career faculty and all levels in between. The RSVP on the meeting registration form is for the mentees and mentors who will attend the Meet Up.

27th Annual Student Luncheon
Sunday, June 23rd     11:40 am - 1:10 pm

LIMITED SEATING: Only students should request a ticket (RSVP);
Senior Investigators will be invited.

The Annual Student Luncheon is sponsored by RSA and organized by the Education Committee.  The luncheon provides an opportunity for Masters and predoctoral students to network with senior investigators and members of NIAAA working in the various disciplines of alcohol research. Lunch will be provided for each participant and a short program has been arranged.

 

24th Annual Postdoc Dinner
Sunday, June 23rd    7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

LIMITED SEATING: Only postdoctoral fellows should request a ticket (RSVP).

The Annual Welcoming Dinner for post-doctoral fellows is sponsored by RSA and organized by the Education Committee.  The dinner provides an opportunity for post-doctoral fellows to meet and socialize with other post-doctoral fellows working in the various disciplines of alcohol research.  This is an excellent opportunity for post-docs to establish contacts and get to know other post-docs.  Dinner will be provided by RSA (alcoholic beverages may be purchased onsite).
 

Diversity Committee Workshop
Monday, June 24th - 11:45 am - 1:10 pm.
 
Anyone may attend, but a limited number of box lunches will be provided* to those
with a ticket (RSVP). *no charge for early stage (students) / trainees (post-docs, no more than 4 yrs post degree); $40 for seniors / non-trainees to be paid at time of RSVP. 
 

The Diversity Committee hosts an open meeting at lunchtime. Up to 75 individuals have attended the meeting, although some come for only part of the time. The meeting has been highly productive in helping to formulate a vision for the Diversity Committee and to plan specific diversity-related activities. 



Legislative Advocacy Workshop
Monday, June 24th - 11:45 am - 1:10 pm.

with a ticket (RSVP). *no charge for early stage (students) / trainees (post-docs, no more than 4 yrs post degree); $40 for seniors / non-trainees to be paid at time of RSVP. 
 

The Legislative Advocacy Workshop is sponsored by RSA and organized by the Government Affairs and Advocacy Committee (GAAC).   The GAAC will review the current state of play on issues of importance to RSA members and discuss best practices for advancing the interests of alcohol researchers at this time of great legislative, regulatory, and policy uncertainty.

 

3rd Annual RSA Community Forum for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Monday, June 24th - 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm.

The RSA Diversity Subcommittee for Diversity at the Annual Meeting is organizing this community forum; which will include a Q&A with researchers of underrepresented groups at different career levels, as well as an open networking session for attendees.  The event format was created based on feedback from RSA members. 

 

27th Annual Grants Skills Workshop
Tuesday, June 25th - 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.

The Grants Skills Workshop, established in 1998, is sponsored by RSA and organized by the Education Committee.  The workshop is designed to provide career-related information to both junior and senior investigators and to promote interactions between RSA and NIAAA.
